1. OBJECTIVE: To
provide guidelines to respond in case of emergency situations like Fire accidents.
2. SCOPE: To
lay down guidelines for safety of personnel during emergency situations.
3. INTRODUCTION:
Emergency situation arise
when fire breaks out inside the premises due to electrical short circuits or
during inflammable solvents handling. It is important that people should be
trained to respond immediately to rise to the occasion to prevent property loses
injuries and deaths.
4. PROCEDURE:
A.
DURING WORKING HOURS:
4.1.
Whoever first observes fire should shout “FIRE” “FIRE” etc.
4.2. The Security In charge should be informed first
who in turn through telephones
inform all the emergency team members
and fire attack team members.
4.3.
The security in charge should also inform fire station if necessary.
4.4.
The maintenance people should cut –off main power supply immediately in case of
electrical fires.
4.5.
The fire attack team members should rush to the location and use proper fire
Extinguishers to contain the fire. If
the fire is uncontrollable the fire station people
Should be followed up for immediate
action.
4.6.
In case of minor injuries or burns to personnel the first aid team members
should
give first aid to the effected and in
case of major burns or injuries the nearest hospital
Should be contacted for ambulance and be
shifted to the hospital for further
Treatment.
4.7.
After the fire is extinguished the debris should be removed and the affected
areas should be cleaned
thoroughly.
4.8.
All the details pertaining to the accident should be recorded in accident
register.

4.9. An
emergency meeting should be conducted by the safety team at the emergency
meeting point specified , calling all the employees to discuss various aspects
and review the cause of accident and preventive measures to be taken to prevent
such accident to occur in future.
B.
DURING OUT OF WORKING HOURS:
4.10 The security in charge will have to take the
total responsibility and depending on the magnitude of
the fire
he has to act.
4.11.
First he should inform the Directors about the accident through phones to their
residences to take
permission for opening the factory.
4.12.
Meanwhile he should depute his associates to use suitable fire extinguishers to
contain the fire.
4.13.
If the fire is large in magnitude he should immediately call the fire station people
for action.
4.14.
He should also call maintenance engineer for advice.
4.15.
After the fire is extinguished the security in charge should make a record of
all the happenings and discuss in detail with all the concerned people the next
day.
