1.0       OBJECTIVE:

This SOP will establish a uniform means for Managing all Odor standards and Odor evaluation. This SOP is exclusively for P&G only.

2.0       POLICY: 

This SOP is applicable for all Odor grading trainings and Managing all Odor standard of
Procter & Gamble.

3.0       PROCEDURE:

3.1                   Principle:

            Odor evaluation employs the human nose to evaluate the Odor intensity and Odor
             characteristics of the samples. Target Odor standard are provided as reference sample to
             which the test  sample is  compared. Sample either “PASS” or “FAIL” depending upon the
             degree of deviation  from the standard. The degree of deviation is determined by the qualified   
odor panel. All odor related qualification and training required for P&G is conducted & maintained by P&G POC. 

3.2           Raw material & Finished goods odor standards:

3.2.1        Ensure all odor standards are current & updated.

3.2.2        All the odor panelist are to be qualified by approved P&G POC (Plant odor coordinator)

3.2.3        Odor & appearance testing shall be done by approved odor panelists.

3.2.4        Odor qualification & requalification of analyst will be done by qualified odor panelists with P&G POC & records maintained accordingly.

3.2.5        Maintain odor standards as per temperature requirement.

3.2.6        P&G POC will maintain the list of qualified odor grader as per Annexure-1.

3.2.7        Monitor the temperature of the Cabinet / Fridge (Once a day) / Twice daily) Temperature reading Annexure – 2.

3.2.8        Maintain the index of the approved odor & approved standard as per annexure – 3.

3.2.9    Label the standard as per the label in Annexure – 4.
The conditions for odor room are RH 20% to 60 %, Temp: 20%-27% & for perfume standards between 2-10ºC & for RM & FG odor standard refrigerator 5- 10%.

3.2.10  Bulk & FG odor grading on daily basis as per Annexure – 5.
                                                                                                              
3.2.11       RM odor grading on daily basis as per Annexure – 6.

3.2.12  Maintain sample preparation record for Duo-Trio method as per Annexure – 7.

           In case of any doubt & discrepancy contact P&G POC Immediately.
  
4.0       FREQUENCY: As & when required.

1. List of qualified odor graders
2. Daily temperature & RH monitoring of odor grading room and refrigerator
3. Approved standard odor list
4. Standard samples labels format
5. Finished goods / bulk odor grading sheet
6. Raw material odor grading sheet
7. Sample preparation record of FG / bulk
