1.0 OBJECTIVE:
To provide guidelines for Calibration of Balance.
2.0 POLICY:
Calibrated balances are used for maintaining accuracy
of weights.
3.0 PROCEDURE:
3.1
The Balance should be checked for
leveling of the base by spirit level, before operating.
3.2 Self calibrate the balance before use.
3.3 Self
calibration procedure for Afcoset balance is as follows.
3.4 The
balance has “CAL” knob which is used to self calibrate the balance.
3.5 To self calibrate the balance ensure that there is no dust in
the weighing chamber and on the pan. If necessary clean.
3.6 Press
“CAL” The display will be cal & then “CAL IN” and then CAL DN”.
3.7 When the display is “CAL DN”. Slowly brings the triangular knob
on the right side to down position
3.8 When the display is “CAL UP”. Slowly brings the triangular knob
on the right side to up position. The knob is brought to the original position
slowly.
3.9 The
display will be “CAL END”.
3.10 The
calibration has been successfully completed.
3.11 After
successful completion of calibration the display will be 0.0000g.
3.12 In case
if the calibration is incomplete then there will be “Cal error” display.
3.13 Self
calibrate the balance daily once at the start of the day and whenever power
shutdown and balance comes to off position.
3.14
Self calibration procedure for citizen
balance is as follows.
3.15 Citizen
balance has an automated calibration system. Whenever balance is switched on
the balance calibrates all by itself and gives the display of 0.0000 g weight,
which indicates that the balance is calibrated. During power failure also the
balance calibrates automatically.
3.16
Verification and calibration of
balance is done on daily basis by using standard weights.
3.17 Clean
the standard weights with tissue paper and place the standard weights on pan
with forceps and note the readings after the display is stable.
3.18 Standard
weights used for higher limit range verification are 1g, 2g, 5g, 10g, 50g, and
for lower limit range verification use 20mg, 50mg &100mg weights.
3.19
The weight displayed by the above
weights is recorded in the calibration register.
The reading of the standard weight shall not be more
than the Tolerance limited as specified in the calibration record.
3.20 After
recording the readings place the weights back in the weight box with forceps,
close the weight box and keep in a secured place.
3.21 Calibrate
the citizen and Afcoset balances once in 3 months, with 10mg, 20mg, 100mg,
200mg, 500mg, 1g, 2g, 5g, 10g, 50g, 100g, 150g (Afcoset) & 200g (citizen)
and record the readings in the calibration register.
3.22 Calibrate
the snug and contech balances once in 3 months, with 10mg, 20mg, 100mg, 200mg,
500mg, 1g, 2g, 5g, 10g, 50g, 100g, 120g (contech balance) and 150g (snug
balance) record the readings in the calibration register.
3.23
The standard weights are calibrated by
external agency, once in a year.
4.0
FREQUENCY: Verification check is done daily before use.
Calibration is done once in 3 months.
